Chagrin: translated in French it means deep sorrow or grief {?} so you can imagine my confusion when I visited Chagrin Falls. Why call something so absolutely charming, deep sorrow falls, did someone die here? Well with further sleuthing it turns out it is not that at all. Chagrin is the English spelling and pronunciation of the Erie Indian world for "clear water". Silly English, you ruin so many things. Clear Water is much better. As a little note, the falls are best enjoyed on a chilly afternoon, as the sun is setting, with carmel apple cider, and tantalizing company.
